According to the definition of the Institute for Women and for Equal Opportunities, “gender violence has been and continues to be one of the clearest manifestations of inequality, subordination and the power relations of men over women. This type of violence is based on and is exercised by the subjective difference between the sexes. In short, women suffer violence for the mere fact of being women, and the victims are women of any social, educational, cultural or economic level.
Gender violence is that which is exercised on women by those who are or have been linked to them by holiday relationships (partners or ex-partners). The aggressor's objective is to cause harm and gain control over the woman, which is why it occurs continuously over time and systematically in the form, as part of the same strategy ”.
The fatalities due to gender violence so far this year until October 2020 amount to 38, according to the latest balance of the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Equality. In October 2020, a total of 1 women have been murdered victims of sexist violence, which represents a variation of -3 compared to the same month of the previous year (Source: EpData).
Combating this perverse scourge is the task of the entire society, that is why the Economics Library joins the rest of the activities programmed by the University of Alicante to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with a virtual bibliographic exhibition and a compilation of current scientific articles on the subject (2018-2020).
