Female scientists in Arts

Cartel de la exposición The Arts Library of the University of Alicante will host from February 10 to May 31 the exhibition “Científicas de Letras / Científiques de Lletres” prepared by the Vice-Dean of Social and Linguistic Responsibility and Equality and the Faculty of Arts Equality Comission, on the occasion of the Womens' and Girls' Day in Science.

The exhibition pretends to make more visible a group that suffers triple invisibility. Often throughout history female's work has not been recognized and female scientists in general have been relegated to the background both inside and outside the academic world. Furthermore, Arts, in particular, has traditionally suffered the stigma of not being considered "Science". That is why, with this exhibition, we want to contribute to a greater visibility of women in Science and, in particular, in various fields of Arts. Important female historians, geographers, archaeologists, anthropologists, philosophers, philologists, translators, lexicographers, writers, journalists, etc. are represented here.

The posters have been elaborated with the participation of Maite Ávila Martínez, Isabel Balteiro, Virginia Barciela González, Naima Benaicha, Irene Corachán, Pitu Espeso-Molinero, Ana Espinosa Seguí, Mauro S. Hernández Pérez, Pedro Jesús Laosa Rodríguez, Rosario Martí Marco, Daniel Mateo Corredor, Irene Mira-Navarro, Antonia Montes, Mónica Moreno Seco, Elena Nájera, Ascensión Padilla Blanco, María Pastor Quiles, Remedios Perni, Feliciana Sala and Ángeles Sirvent.
