Training courses: Managers references

Training courses aimed at knowing the tools that allow creating, maintaining, organizing, sharing and shaping bibliographic references of all types of documents from different sources of information (databases, magazines, web pages, etc.).   Registration form
The courses will be taught in the General Library Building. Computer room of the Ground Floor, preferably in the morning. In the case of courses to be taught to groups of undergraduate, master or doctoral students within the framework of a subject, the classroom will be reserved by the teaching staff through the Space Management Unit, when the number of Attendees exceed the capacity of the computer rooms of the General Library.

How can we manage our bibliography? REFWORKS (ONLINE)

Refworks: Create your account, feed your bibliography database and use it in your resercha works.

Content:  Bibliographic reference managers are tools that allow us to create our personal database of bibliographic references and use them to generate bibliographies and insert citations in our research works. We will be able to store, organize, manage and share the references we locate in the different information resources, format the documents in a certain citation style and have our own digital library, being able to attach files and links to the complete text of each one The bibliographical references. Refworks works in the web environment and is currently the manager to which references refer directly to most of the general and specialized information sources. In this course we will learn to create the account, to feed the database, and to manage and make profitable in our research work our personal database of bibliographic references (management of references and folders, share references, generate bibliographies, insert citations and format In a citation style determined our working documents, migrate to other managers, etc).

Objectives :

  • Understand the usefulness of bibliographic managers and know the basic functionalities of RefWorks.
  • Create an account in RefWorks and become familiar with your work environment.
  • Learn to import bibliographic references and documents from the different options available (directly from databases and portals of electronic journals, from saved text files, from catalogs or online databases from the manager, from other bibliographic managers, from Web pages, using Save to Refworks ...)
  • Learn to introduce bibliographic references manually and to add records from files in pdf format.
  • Learn to organize our references in folders and subfolders.
  • Learn how to manage references and folders and work with individual or global editing options, attach files, remove duplicates, etc.
  • Know how to share our references with other colleagues and colleagues, using the different types of permission.
  • To know the basic and advanced search options of references in the database and index navigation (author, descriptor, magazine).
  • Learn how to prepare bibliographies.
  • Learn to insert quotes in the working document and format it in a particular citation style (Word, Google docs ...).
  • Create backups of our database.

Manage your bibliography with MENDELEY (ONLINE)

Mendeley: Create your account, feed your bibliography database and use it in your research work.

Content: Managers of bibliographic references are tools that allow us to create our personal database of bibliographic references and use them to generate bibliographies and insert citations in our research work in a particular citation style. They also allow us to have our own digital library, to be able to attach files and links to the full text of each of the references. Mendeley combines elements of managers of bibliographic references and documents, with a social network. It allows you to store, classify, label, discover and share bibliographic references and documents on the internet. This allows the researchers to organize their work and collaborate with other scientists and learn about the latest publications in your area of interest. Mendeley lets you create communities of references shared between researchers or groups of users.

Objectives:

  • Understand the usefulness of bibliographic managers and learn the basic functionalities of Mendeley.
  • Create an account on Mendeley and become familiar with their work, with web versions and desktop environment.
  • Learn how to import citations and documents from the various available options (from other bibliographic managers, from databases, using Web importer from Watch Folder, other Mendeley users...)
  • Know how to enter references manually and add records from files in pdf format.
  • Learn how to edit and manage references (add information, attach files, de-duplicate, unify terms, tagging documents...)  and organize them in folders and subfolders.
  • Learn how to generate bibliographies and to insert quotations in a particular citation style.
  • Create public or private groups and share and manage documents within the group (add comments, mark text, annotate documents, add labels and other fields).
  • Learn how to edit and update our profile in the web version.
  • Search groups, contacts, and documents through the web version.
